March the 11th.
As the second week of Lent concludes, the focus of the liturgy is on penance. Both readings point to this.
The gospel parable about the prodigal son and the merciful father is a very special reminder. Our Lenten efforts prepare us to be better recipients of this great gift of pardon. The better we know ourselves, the more clearly we will see our need for the mercy and pardon of God.
This gives us incentives to continue our efforts as we make our journey in our return to hope.
Like the prodigal son, may we hasten toward the merciful and ever-loving Father.
