March the 13th.
Today is the 18th day of our journey of Return to Hope. At the outset, we were told of the tools that we have at our disposal during Lent. We now focus on the idea of giving alms or help.
The story of Naaman tells us of a pagan army commander who came to Israel seeking a cure. He brought expensive gifts with which he thought to pay for the for the favor he was asking. The prophet Elisha gave him the way to approach God and asked for nothing more than faith in return.
As we make our journey, we often give as a sign of our faith in God. We should always remember that it is the faith that is important, not the amount of the gift. God wants us to imitate him. We can never equal his generosity, but we can always grow in our likeness to Him.
