The Poverello Health Center was founded 25 years ago by the Sisters of St. Francis to serve those in need within the greater Syracuse community. We are seeking a Director who feels called to serve and provide compassionate care for the poor who seek medical care.

The Director is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing clinical operations, supervising nursing and clinical support staff, and ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, and compassionate care to patients. This position requires a nurse leader with strong clinical skills, leadership experience, and a deep commitment to serving uninsured and underinsured populations.
This position reports to the Executive Director of Franciscan Northside Ministries.

Clinical Leadership
Oversee clinical operations of the free clinic.
Ensure a welcoming, organized, and safe environment for patients and volunteer staff.
Staff Supervision & Training
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff, volunteers, and students.
Coordinate orientation and ongoing education for clinical personnel.
Provide direct patient care as needed.
Administrative Duties
Manage inventory of medical supplies, equipment, and medications.
Ensure documentation compliance in electronic health records (EHR).
Contribute to grant applications, program development, and quality improvement initiatives.
Patient Care Coordination
Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other staff to manage patient flow and continuity of care.
Support chronic disease management programs (e.g., hypertension, diabetes).
Participate in patient education and outreach efforts.
Help patients get connected to community resources.
Community & Partner Engagement
Serve as a liaison with other public health and community agencies.
Promote a culturally competent care model.

Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), licensed in New York State.
Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience.
Experience in community health, public health, or working with underserved populations.
Familiarity with electronic health records and Microsoft Office Suite
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

Combination of administrative and clinical duties.
Includes flexible daytime hours and fixed times for a weekly Wednesday evening clinic.

Standing, walking, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.

Pay range for the position is $35.00 - $38.00 per hour for 20 - 29 hours per week
