April the 16th.

Today is Divine Mercy Sunday.

The name may be new, but what is expressed is the same today as it was on that first Easter. The emphasis that was given by the divine revelations given to St. Faustina and promoted by St. John Paul II are God's answer to the needs of a world in which we live. The moment now is one of many divisions and conflicts. As the years have shown us the path to resolving these is forgiveness and mercy.

The peace portrayed in today's scriptures in the early Christian communities didn't last all that long. They had to learn how to apply the forgiveness the risen Lord had brought. We need to reflect on and ask God to show us how to use it anew in the day in which we live.

Lord of Mercy, teach us to be merciful.
