Listen As A Podcast

March the 6th.

Lent is traditionally marked by fasting and abstinence.

In our time, the obligation has been shifted more to the individual person. It hasn't been eliminated; it has been adapted. Our first thought always focuses on food, but in reality it has a much wider scope. It doesn't indicate that food or anything else is bad. It helps us to understand that it can be used in a better and more fruitful way.

Just looking back on the creation story in the Bible, we are told that all that God created was good. But we were also told to use it as its guardians, not as its owners. The fasting and abstinence we practice during this season helps us to learn and live this.
