March the 8th.
Our Lenten readings encourage us to fast, but they also admonish us that our actions should be well motivated. When we choose to fast, it should not leave an emptiness in our lives. Whenever we eliminate something, we should put something in its place. In other words, fasting should always have a positive aspect.
This is essential in order for us to make progress.
For example, if we were to fast from criticism of others, we ought to strive to be positive in our way of speaking. If we were to refrain from an app on our cell phone or computer which are dangerous, we should try to replace them with ones which were more beneficial.
Lord, make my Lenten effort to fast something positive.
