March the 16th.
The readings today give us some very useful points for reflection.
The people of Israel were very much the same as we are. They changed, but they were often held back by the things they were reluctant to change. We often find ourselves impeded by resentment or prejudice. We want to go forward, but we just find it difficult to let go of an idea or a conviction.
Lent is a great time to work on rooting out such things. Our practices during this time might point out some of these places where change is needed. They also might give us a push forward into letting them go.
Lord, help me to be open to the changes this Lent invites me to undertake.
